Flowing
Spring in Playhatch, Oxfordshire, nestles
on the
edge of the Chilterns on the Henley
Road just minutes from Reading, Caversham, Sonning, Shiplake and
Henley-on-Thames.
It is a
friendly, cosy country pub that serves fresh, home-made food, including
a
wide range of
vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options. It was awarded South
Oxfordshire CAMRA Winter Pub of the Season 2011/2012 and is listed in
this year's CAMRA Good Beer Guide. We have also now been awarded Cask
Marque accreditation for the excellent quality of our ales. |

Exciting and original events happen throughout the year, both inside and out, from live jazz in the garden to charity weekends, a beer festival, barbecues, the annual ferret show, games nights, astronomy nights and many private and corporate events.
The 18th century pub is on a slant with almost a foot difference from one end of the bar to the other! At the rear is a huge garden with streams on two sides, one of which is fed from the local spring. Find out more about the pub and its history here. There is an abundance of wildlife.
Unusually, the pub itself is on the first floor with an excellent covered balcony overlooking the garden.
There is plenty of car parking space, a toilet on car park level for disabled customers (with baby changing facilities) and Wi-Fi. It is popular with walkers (walks between Sonning and Shiplake through the Bluebell Woods are particularly popular), runners and cyclists. Children, bikers and dogs are also very welcome!
AWARD WINNERS!
In December 2011 the Flowing Spring was awarded 'Winter Pub of the Season' by South Oxfordshire CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) in recognition of Nick and Hazel's efforts in transforming the pub. In a press release CAMRA said: "The Flowing Spring went through a rather low period - until December last year when Nick and Hazel took over the business. Since then they have turned the whole thing around giving a great example of how to create a successful community pub. In recognition of their efforts at the end of their first year the SOX Branch will be presenting them with the Winter Pub of the Season Award."
