POSITION: COMMIS CHEF

We are recruiting a commis chef to help in our small, happy, busy kitchen with the potential to grow to a senior chef position.

Your day to day duties will include:

  • Working to the highest standards of health and safety and food hygiene
  • Food preparation
  • Helping to fulfill customer food orders
  • Taking the greatest care over customer orders with dietary needs, avoiding cross-contamination
  • Presenting dishes to a consistently high standard
  • Delivering meals to tables at busy times
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen and adjacent areas
  • Helping with washing up and cleaning of crockery, utensils and equipment
  • Ensuring all products and utensils are stored away
  • Completing end-of-shift tasks
Desired skills:  Hard working, honest, reliable, a good listener and learner, attention to detail and energetic. A good sense of humour also helps! There is no public transport to this country pub so own transport will be required.

Qualifications required:
 No formal qualifications required but you will need to be committed and passionate

Future prospects:  There will be the opportunity for the right person to be given an increasing number of tasks, leading to full responsibility for many aspects of the kitchen.

Hours:  Selected Shifts, including some split shifts, between Tuesday and Sunday, minimum 35 hours per week

We are happy for this role to be part of an apprenticeship through Henley or Reading College.

We will pay above the minimum wage

POSITION: FRONT OF HOUSE

We are recruiting for front of house duties to help in our small, happy pub with the potential to grow to a management position.

Your day to day duties will include:

  • Serving drinks (you must be 18 to serve alcohol unsupervised)
  • Taking customer food orders
  • Taking care over customer orders with dietary needs and intolerances
  • Clearly communicating food orders with the kitchen to ensure all allergens and intolerances are understood
  • Delivering meals to tables
  • Ensuring customers are happy and served to high standards
  • Replenishing stock with stock rotation
  • Changing casks and kegs in the cellar, working to our high standards of delivering the best kept real ales
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the bar and all public areas, inside and out
  • Accurately recording all customer orders on the POS system and handling cash and card transactions
  • Ensuring all glassware, cutlery and other items are clean and stored correctly
  • Completing end-of-shift tasks, leaving all areas in a clean and tidy state
  • Helping to set up and manage special events
Desired skills:  Hard working, honest, reliable, attentive and energetic. A good sense of humour also helps! You will also need to speak fluent English as customers with dietary needs need to be fully understood. There is no public transport to this country pub so own transport will be required.

Qualifications required:  No formal qualifications required but you will need to be committed and passionate

Future prospects:  There will be the opportunity for the right person to be given an increasing number of tasks, leading to full responsibility for many aspects of the bar and front of house, with the potential over the long terms to become bar manager. You will also undergo the Personal Licence (APLH certificate) course and be fully trained in the workings of the cellar. Other training courses may become available.

Hours:  Selected Shifts between Tuesday and Sunday, minimum 25 hours per week
