Slightly Plugged Night at The Flowing Spring

Slightly Plugged Night

Friday 28 August

Our Slightly Plugged Nights give musicians the opportunity to perform for up to 30 minutes semi-acoustically in the bar.

We welcome soloists, duos, trios and quartets, depending on the space needed. We tend to plug guitars directly into our desk, so amps aren't usually required. Drum kits should be minimal. Cajons are a good option!

We use a small PA and an engineer to set you up (microphones provided), usually only taking a few minutes.

If you would like to join us, just give us a call or email us with your act's name, genre of music and line-up of musicians and instruments.

Registered as appearing this month (now fully booked) are:

  • Belinda Trubee (solo)
  • Tony Brown (solo)
  • 9pm Sam Gillies (solo)
  • Steve O'Farrell (solo)
  • Kris King (solo)
  • Different Reasons (duo)
  • Alistair Poon and George O’Conner (duo)
  • 8pm Eloise (solo)

Unplugged Night at The Flowing Spring

Unplugged Night

Tuesday 1 September

More acoustic acts in the bar

We began our Unplugged Nights (otherwise known as Quirky Corner Unplugged) back in January 2014.

The format is simple. Anyone can come along and perform, with or without instruments but with one rule: no plugging in!

We have hosted hundreds of people of different musical genres, of different abilities and with different instruments - and some simply reciting prose and poetry. It's been wonderful.

Our Unplugged Nights usually take place in the cosy bar on the first Tuesday of every month. It's a wonderfully intimate setting with bags of support and good humour. It's called Quirky Corner Night because that's where it all started: in our Quirky Corner. But it outgrew the space within a month!

If you'd like to come along and perform, just turn up. Alternatively, you can go to the  Quirky Corner facebook page and send a message to Mike Tuffery who manages the event for us.

If you wish to eat while you're here, please call us at the pub and book a table as it can get busy.

Marky Dawson at The Flowing Spring, Saturday 24 October 2026

Marky Dawson feat. Derek Nash

Saturday 24 October

Lively piano-led boogie-woogie quartet. A rare appearance.

Virtuoso Blues Man?

Sensitive Singer Songwriter?

Raucous Piano pounder?

Marky Dawson is proud to be all three.

He developed his Boogie/Rock 'n' Roll style piano playing along with his ability to interact with an audience taking requests and heckles whilst working in London pubs and clubs.

He delivers the intimacy of a jazz club, the energy of a stadium performance, and the fun of the pub. Remarkyble.

Derek Nash has been a member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004, has led Sax Appeal for over thirty years, fronts the funk/fusion band Protect the Beat, and is a member of the Ronnie Scott's Blues Explosion. He is renowned for his energetic, vibrant, passionate and charismatic performances on all four saxophones - from sonorous baritone to soaring soprano.

The quartet comprises:

- Marky Dawson - Piano/Vocals

- Derek Nash - Saxophone

- Simon Rushbrook - Bass

- Chris Chambers - Drums

Pretty Green

Saturday 7 November

The superb tribute to The Jam

This hard working band from Burnley in Lancashire returns to The Flowing Spring, dedicating their music to The Jam.

Whether it is a complex song like Burning Sky or Scrape Away or a classic like Going Underground or Start, you will be blown away by their musical talent and commitment to getting things right and sounding right.

What makes Pretty Green stand out from other Jam tributes is the front man who is in his very early twenties, with his controlled aggression, guitar playing and singing, mirroring a young Paul Weller.

Covering all albums, B sides and singles, this really will be another night to remember.

Jam fans will not be disappointed.

Saturday 14 November

Songs of Wit and Doom

Kris King and Minch with Special Guests

You are going to be treated to a unique night of entertainment featuring the excellent music and words of Kris King and Mister Minch, packed with story-telling and wit.

The story follows Isabella and Sandra and a reflection of their lives in their final hours. So cleverly written, you'll be grinning throughout.

There will be video accompaniment plus support from Minch & Andy with their musical interpretations of Dylan Thomas poems and from Sing-along-a-Nick's versions of classic doom-laden Tom Lehrer songs.

Vintage Voltage

Saturday 21 November

60s and 70s Rock at its Best

Clad in flares, boots, and unapologetically unbuttoned shirts, Vintage Voltage channels the spirit of rock’s golden era, not as nostalgia, but as something alive, electric, and unmistakably fresh. This isn’t dress-up. It’s not parody. It’s not a museum piece. It’s a revival powered by genuine love for the music and the eras that shaped it.

Vintage Voltage isn’t simply a tribute band; it’s a travelling time machine. From the swagger of arena rock to the grit of blues-infused hard rock, they recreate the raw energy, groove and attitude that defined a generation, and deliver it with the intensity of musicians who grew up long after it first exploded.

No wigs. No fake costumes. No gimmicks. Just real musicianship, real chemistry, and real rock ’n’ roll.

  • Takes place in the Acoustic Lounge
  • Tickets coming soon
  • Doors open 6pm. The show will begin at 8:30pm, finishing no later than 11pm

The Sing-along-a-Nick Christmas Show at The Flowing Spring

The Sing-along-a-Nick Christmas Show

Friday 18 December

Every Christmas for many years the Sing-along-a-Nick trio has entertained the masses here with festive songs and silliness. We've always called it Sing-along-a-Nicktivity.

This year it's slightly different. After all, we need to keep the show as fresh as newly fallen snow.

So it is now imaginatively called The Sing-along-a-Nick Christmas Show.

We'll have lots of cheesy Christmas hits to plough through, a few traditional songs and carols and more sketches and audience participation.

So it will contain even more sacks of fun than before!!
